Why every jar of our honey looks different

From dark amber to pale gold: what the color of raw honey tells you, and why ours is never blended.

Four jars of Villa Bee raw honey in the sun, from dark amber to pale gold

Line up a few jars of Villa Bee honey in the sun and no two match. That's on purpose. We harvest one hive at a time and never blend them, so each jar keeps the character of the flowers that colony found.

Color and flavor follow the nectar flow. Batches from early cherry blossom tend to run darker with cherry notes; summer blackberry and wildflower batches can be lighter, floral and sweeter. Timing shifts from year to year, so your jar's color is the best guide.

Raw honey, cared for

  • Raw honey may crystallize over time. That's natural. Warm the jar gently in a bowl of warm water to soften it.
  • Store it tightly closed at room temperature.
  • Do not feed honey to infants under 12 months of age.

Look at the sticker on the bottom of a jar and you'll see which hive made it. Our honey is between harvests right now; join the Hive Tribe newsletter to hear when the next jars are ready.
